SPIRIT Paddle Sports was founded in 1993 by Surf Ski designer, builder and paddler, James Payne. SPIRIT Paddle Sports has evolved to become a major manufacturer and distributor of high quality fibreglass and super tough polyethylene surf skis, sit on top kayaks, paddles, paddle gear and accessories building a reputation for high quality, innovative design, appealing aesthetics and exceptional performance.

In December 2007, SPIRIT Paddle Sportsacquired Adventure Kayaks Australia. Adventure Kayaks manufacture a range of leisure kayaks dedicated to recreational, camping and fishing lifestyle paddling. This perfectly complements the range of Sport Kayaks available from SPIRIT.

In May 2008, SPIRIT Paddle Sports acquired Torpedo Kayaks. Two brand new ski's, the Crossfire – a fast training and exercise craft or long distance recreational sit on and the Torpedo, a purpose built sit on for children with a maximum capacity of 65kg were added to the range.

SPIRIT Paddle Sports philosophy revolves around revolutionary product design and development, innovation, intuitive paddler training, product support for all paddlers with a focus on growing kayak participation at all levels including leisure, fitness and competition.

SPIRIT Paddle Sports proudly supports Surf Life Saving Australia, Canoeing Western Australia and sponsors many national events including The Avon Descent and World Ocean Series. SPIRIT's Racing Ski is the only Surf Life Saving Australia approved plastic surf ski and holds many Masters Titles in SLSA competition.

SPIRIT remarkable performance – Avon Descent since 1972

The SPIRIT Double Surf Ski still holds the overall paddle craft record of completing the world class white water event the "Avon Descent" faster than any other paddle craft in the 37 year history of the Avon Descent – D Pratt and T Bird – 7 hours, 13 minutes and 48 seconds - 1996. "Yes" even beating the double kayaks! What an amazing achievement!
 
This year (as with last year) marked a very significant milestone for SPIRIT's PRS Ski, the fastest plastic on the planet! The PRS Ski won the most sought after plastic category of the Avon Descent - the Long Plastic 4.5m & Over Male - even beating the single composite surf ski's, Brendon Sarson managed 7th Place over all in the solo open class and 1st Place in the Long Plastic Male category with a time of 12h 14m 25s - an absolutely sensational effort! SPIRIT has dominated the Avon Descent winning the long plastic category (LP1) for the past 8 years consecutively 2003-2010. GO SPIRIT! The PRS also holds the current RECORD for the fastest plastic down the Avon - the most prestigious and highly sought after LP1 class. If you want the best chance of winning the LP1 Class - you had better get yourself the right equipment!
